I've been reading and watching the news concerning the Wisconsin Union issue. I have been managed as an employee many years as wells as been a manager responsible for employees. If Unions are so good, then shouldn't every American be in a Union so they can pool their resources to ensure that they have everything needed presently and in retirement?
I believe that Unions inherently produce mediocrity. You can not manage effectively based on the Union not allowing management any control of the company or institution without Union agreement. With the Union supporting the weak links in their membership, it becomes us against them type of relationship.
I don't want companies running over employee's with no regard for the individual either. I understand the value a Union can have in that regard. We end up with what we have now that I do not support.
So if Unions are so good, let's have a fast food / restaurant Union throughout the country. The individuals working there have to be in the hundreds of thousands of employees that fit that role. Shouldn't the waitresses and waiters and all restaurant workers have more pay and long term benefits, after all they are paid very low wages. Are the teachers Union and the Auto workers Union "better" than them that they deserve a Union and others don't?
How about the field of work I have been in, the computer service / repair business. Shouldn't all the IT employees / Electricians / Computer repair / any employee that services or repairs technical equipment, be in a Union to ensure they are protected from the employer? I'm sure that would be a bunch of people in that Union.
I could go on and on with different groups that could be Unionized, if it was such a good thing. Do you all realize how much the price would rise on every single product, because of the extreme demands that a Union places on business. You would see your cable bill / cell phone bill / internet bill / banking charges / restaurant bills go sky high in order to give the employees what they have collectively bargained for.
After all if it is good for the others to be in Union, it should be good for ALL.
So how many of you believe that if we all were in a Union that it would be feasible? Do you believe that everything would be great and all would get great benefits and excellent salary with security that you would not lose your job?
Let's get real. It is not feasible, plus it creates mediocrity. Again I believe in hard work and self reliant attitude.
Oh, buy the way, both of my parents are retired teachers who have benefited from the Union. I do believe in the American worker, but believe there needs to be balance. Balance implies moderation, which is what I believe in. I believe no one individual or group should overwhelm another. Doesn't the Unions take/benefit from the American worker who is not in a Union so they can benefit with great benefits?
Let us Unionize America. NOT!!!
